Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga consists of two distinct climatic zones, the Lowveld which is hot and humid, with long grass and broad-leaved trees and the Highveld which is higher and much cooler.

The Blyde River Canyon is one of the scenic areas along the Panorama RouteThe Lowveld is where you will find the game reserves where game and bird-life abound. The Highveld is characterised by rolling hills, pretty streams, waterfalls, pockets of indigenous forest and cultivated pine plantations. Because of the Highveld's ideal climate, trout have been introduced into some dams and streams of Dullstroom and Lydenberg making this area a fly-fisherman’s paradise.

Mpumalanga has an incredible history. Hunters and pioneers cut across lion country to seek their fortune during the gold rush era. Lawlessness was the order of the day and the quaint towns of Pilgrims Rest and Barberton have a wonderful tale to tell. For tradition and culture visit the Ndebele people, notable for their colourful traditional costumes and uniquely decorated houses.
