South Africa's Currency
South Africa's currency is Rands and cents - R1.00 = 100 cents.
Coins come in 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, R1, R2 and R5 denominations.
Notes come in R10, R20, R50, R100, R200, R500 denominations.
Most major currencies can be exchanged at the bank or at a branch of Rennies Foreign Exchange. You will be asked to produce your passport. A minimal charge is levied for the exchange of foreign currency and travelers cheques. Some of the bigger hotels may also help with foreign exchange however this is generally a more expensive option.
Banks & Exchange Bureaus
The commercial banks are First National Bank, Standard Bank, Nedbank and ABSA. Automatic Teller machines are found in most malls and shopping centres as well as at some petrol stations. A number of international banks have branches in the main cities.

Monday - Friday: 09h00 to 15h30
Saturday: 08h30 to 11h30
Rennies Foreign Exchange hours are:
Monday - Friday: 08h30 to 16h30
Saturday: 09h00 to 12h00
The Post Office, as well as the building societies, are not able to help with the exchange of foreign currency.
Credit Cards - MasterCard and Visa are widely accepted throughout the country however American Express and Diners are generally only accepted only in the main city centres.
