Fugitives’ Drift Lodge & Guest House
Fugitives' Drift Lodge and Guest House is situated on a Natural Heritage Site overlooking the "sphinx" of Isandlwana and the Oskarsberg at Rorke's Drift. Fugitives’ Drift is renowned for its Battlefield Tours to all the Zulu War and Anglo-Boer War battle sites in the region. Accommodation in the reserve is offered at The Lodge and The Guest House.
The Lodge consists of spacious, luxury en-suite cottages, each with a private verandah affording views over the plains flanking the Buffalo River Gorge. A feature of the lodge is the beautiful, shady well established garden, home to innumerable birds, and a spectacular swimming pool situated on a secluded spur on the lip of the Buffalo River Gorge. Enjoy sundowners around a fire under a canopy of Paperbarks, with magical Isandlwana looming on the skyline, and superb cuisine, a unique fusion of home and modern flavours, in the splendid atmosphere of a veritable museum of Zulu War memorabilia.
The Guest House cottages have large en-suite bedrooms that are individually decorated, with private verandahs providing sweeping views of the reserve and surrounding battlefields. The original house has been transformed into a charming sitting and dining room filled with fascinating memorabilia, while the original verandah has been retained. An outside eating area affords a stunning view across a plain with Isandlwana in the distance. The Guest House also has a small swimming pool.
The 2,500 hectare reserve contains diverse and abundant wildlife including giraffe, zebra, kudu, hartebeest and a host of smaller antelope, as well as 275 recorded bird species. The Buffalo Gorge is a Natural Heritage Site where spectacular walks can be enjoyed. Horse riding through the reserve is offered and guided tours to Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift are a must.
