Hluhluwe River Lodge
Hluhluwe River Lodge is situated on the western shore of Lake St Lucia, adjoining False Bay Game Reserve and the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park. The lodge commands a spectacular view of the Hluhluwe River floodplain and False Bay. It offers the most comprehensive experience of South Africa's first natural World Heritage site including the famous Hluhluwe Umfolozi Park a mere thirty minutes from the lodge.
The accommodation consists of twelve luxury thatched chalets, each with its own viewing deck, dotted around a magnificent indigenous garden. There are eight two bed chalets, two four bed family chalets with private shower and toilet facilities. In addition there are two honeymoon chalets with shower and Victorian style baths. All chalets are air-conditioned and have mosquito nets. Twenty eight guests can be accommodated comfortably.
There is a central main lodge facility with separate lounge with a balcony overlooking the Hluhluwe river flood plain and False Bay Lake. The dining room setting is comfortable, relaxed and informal and pub facility offers beer, spirits and a selection of top South African wines at modest prices. There is also an outside boma where meals are served under the African stars. There is a network of well lit paths connecting the rooms to the main lodge. The swimming pool is set in a private, secluded area of the garden.
Guests may enjoy an number of eco-experiences such as game drives, botanical trips, kayak trails, boat trips to view hippos, crocodiles and birds as well as a cultural excursion to some of the community programmes which the lodge sponsors.
